The Top Tens of 2008

Nielsen’s Top 10 of PC Games and Consoles of 2008 was published a few days ago, with very few surprises. World of Warcraft is what PC gamers play the most: 671 minutes per week on average. With Call of Duty 4 taking the second place and WoW reaching 11.5 million subscribers worldwide, it was a good year for Activision Blizzard, Inc.

The most popular console of 2008 is not one of those shiny next gen machines after all. The Playstation 2 (released in 2000) takes the lead with 31.7 % of minutes played, beating the Xbox 360 (17.2 %) by a large margin. Interesting and bad news for Sony: The old Xbox is still more in use than the Blu-ray enabled Playstation 3.

Tetris is the game people like playing on their cell phones or other mobile devices, and why shouldn’t they? It’s still fun and addictive. Second place: Bejeweled, also simple enough to play on a subway ride.
