Firefox addons for video game localizers

I recently switched browsers, from my beloved Opera to Firefox. The reason was a mixture of security concerns and time saving: Opera has no efficient way to toggle the use of JavaScript. Browsing with JavaScript enabled is a bad idea for translators and especially localizers of video games. Very often we will click on an obscure Google search result, which can contain all sorts of malware, for example keyloggers.

I use a variety of add-ons to customize Firefox and improve my work flow, some of which I have described below. I also created a collection of these add-ons on the Firefox website.

At the time of writing, seven add-ons are in the list. You can install all of them by clicking on the green “Add to Firefox” buttons. Then restart Firefox.

No Script
Lets you decide with the click of a button which scripts you will allow to execute.

Tab Mix Plus
I really missed a feature to duplicate a tab like in Opera.

Paste and Go 3
Why press a button when you don’t need to?

Speed Dial
Also an Opera feature I missed.

Converter
To go the whole nine meters.

Hyperwords
Highly customizable search tool. Like in Opera, you can create searches by right-clicking in any search box.

Wired Marker
Highlight on web sites. Come back. Still highlighted!

Thanks a lot, I just switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox. Really like Hyperwords already!

I have been using Firefox for years for their Web Developer addon, and more recently for NoScript. There is nothing that any other browser has that can compare to NoScript, and I am very surprised that Opera has not developed a similar functionality built-in.

I agree Lorenzo. I was very disappointed when Opera did not implement such a functionality in their latest build (version 10). Another advantage of Noscript is of course that one can choose which scripts to execute. None of this “either all or none” attitude the other browsers have.

    Thanks for commenting.
